I've never done an awards show post but I've been watching Fashion Police on E! and been inspired by dresses I will never get a chance to wear. (I mean, what would I wear it to?) But a girl can dream. Here's my top 5:
1. Cate Blanchett in a Givenchy Haute Couture gown.
I love this dress not necessarily for the colour, but for the shape- the shoulders and textured panel at the front. It reminds me of when Carey Mulligan wore that Chanel dress. It gives her shoulders shape, it shows off and flatters her figure and colouring, and is perfect for her hair. (Also for me, Cate Blanchett will always be Galadriel from the Lord of the Rings, and it reminds me of that.)
2. Hailee Steinfeld in a specially designed 50s-style Marchesa dress
This is so age appropriate, and this is important if she wants to grow as an actress- she'll want to celebrate her movies and the development of her acting. The shoes look stunning and she looks just like a princess. The mesh see-through part at the top is perfect and covers her modest with class.
3. Mandy Moore in a Monique L'Hullier gown
I doubt this would have suited a shorter girl, but with height this is pulled off. I love the detailing around the bust without it looking like the boobs are bursting out (we get this all the time, and it's a bit boring) let's have some class ladies, and the Oscars deserves it.
4. Scarlett Johansson in a Dolce & Gabbana dress.
This is kind of fitting since she advertized their perfume. I like it because it's a bit different- I don't think anyone else was wearing purple. I love her ring here and her tousled hair and dramatic eyes again are a great departure. I think she runs the risk a bit of looking like my grandma's crochet tablecloth- perhaps the lace could have been smaller and more delicate.
What do you think of these lovely ladies? Who were your best dressed?
